RSD Black Friday 2022
Jazz and blues pianist/vocalist/composer Mose Allison has been described as "one of the finest songwriters of 20th century blues." This 1978 live recording features Allison playing his usual repertoire, in a trio with bassist Tom Rutley (bass) and drummer Jerry Granelli (drums). Since Allison only recorded one album during the years 1973 to 1981, this well-recorded live set is quite valuable.
Most of the material is fairly familiar, but the singer's spirited delivery and interplay with the audience make this recording rare. It ain't about technology, it's about these transcendent versions of Allison classics performed with sidemen who get it, for people who dig it -- the real deal. Highlights include "Wildman on the Loose," "Swinging Machine," "I Live the Life I Love," "I Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues" and "Your Mind Is on Vacation." Recorded Live March 26, 1978 at the Showboat Lounge, Silver Springs, MD.

Since he was the legendary wild man of the Kinks -- the man responsible for their proto-heavy metal guitars, the battling brother of Ray -- it's been easy to pigeonhole Dave Davies as just a hard rocker but anybody who paid close attention to his solo work would know that he has a spiritual, even mystical, dimension to his music which shines through clearly on this classic Dave Davies album.
Originally released in 2007, Fractured Mindz was Dave’s first release after a stroke several years earlier -- a musical journey with The Kinks' guitarist with stops for fame and fortune, sibling rivalry and stroke recovery. First time on vinyl! 2XLP with etching on 4th side.

In 1992, Dave Davies and Gerry Goffin wrote "21st Century" together at a coffee shop in Los Angeles. It is a song about the then-upcoming new millennium, but eerily, the lyrics could have been written today. This RSD Black Friday 7” single pairs a demo of “21st Century” with “Web of Time, a B-side from Davies’ 2018 album Decade.

Thanks to Foo Fighter Dave Grohl and friends, DREAM WIDOW lives.
DREAM WIDOW is the malevolent creation of Dave Grohl (handling vocals, guitar, bass and drums) and lead guitarist Jim Rota of Fireball Ministry renown. Assisted on a few tracks by keyboardists Rami Jaffee and Oliver Roman, Grohl and Rota make good on the sinister promise to blur the lines between reality and darkest fantasy.
The name and mythos of DREAM WIDOW will be familiar to those who’ve laughed and screamed watching Foo Fighters’ horror-comedy feature film, STUDIO 666. In the film, Foo Fighters attempt to record their newest album in the same house where the legendary — and fictional — DREAM WIDOW met its tragic and untimely end — with hilariously horrifying consequences.

Touring in support of their fifth studio album, Airborne, The Flying Burrito Brothers performed at the legendary New York City venue, The Bottom Line on August 18, 1976. This 12-track set features many of their classic songs alongside a few C&W standards. The group's lineup consisted of Skip Battin and Gene Parsons (both ex-Byrds band members), along with Gib Guilbeau, Joel Scott Hill and original Burrito, pedal steel legend, "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow. This live recording is previously unreleased.
"1976 was a great year for re-iteration of the Flying Burrito Brothers having the opportunity to travel throughout the USA celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the United States. Though Gram Parsons wasn't around anymore, Chris Hillman embarked on a solo career, and Chris Ethridge had just departed this band, we had some great guys that just happened to be real familiar with the 'Burrito' mentality. It all came together quite spectacularly! To begin, Gib Guilbeau was my life-long pal and Cajun guy par excellence. Gene Parsons, formerly of the Byrds, was he drummer from hell who lifted the excitement to the limit (and picked a great banjo and string bender guitar. What can I say about Joel Scott Hill? A rebel? A reverent fanatic? A soulful and emotional artist? ALL of the above! Then there is Skip Battin, who just joined the band whom everyone loved and called friend who provided very original bass and vocal support. All these cuts are genuine items from a live performance at New York City's legendary "Bottom Line" club with all the warts AND magical moments. No fix ups and no apologies. Just real music and true enthusiasm. This was the way it was when he hit the road in 1976!"

A recording of the singer/songwriter's show from a July 8, 2000, performance at the famed New York showcase club. Fronting his four-piece band, the Rough Squirrels, Forbert draws from then-recent studio records Evergreen Boy and Mission of the Crossroad Palms, and selected favorites from his first two albums, among them "Goin' Down to Laurel" and the hit "Romeo's Tune," are also included. Not since Ray Davies has a songwriter been able to craft such sharply observed vignettes in the space of a three-minute pop song like the late Adam Schlesinger. And on 2007’s Traffic and Weather, Fountains of Wayne’s fourth album, Schlesinger took his art to a new level, singing short stories as varied as crushing on a DMV clerk ("Yolanda Hayes"), celebrating the sexiness of a car not generally considered sporting ("92 Subaru"), being broke ("Strapped for Cash") and having luggage lost by an airline ("Michael and Heather at the Baggage Claim"). And while it lacks a radio-friendly hit like “Stacy’s Mom”—it should be mentioned that Chris Collingwood only contributed three songs to this record—there are still earworms aplenty, particularly on “I-95,” Collingwood’s “Seatbacks and Traytables,” and the title tune. Finally out on vinyl, this Real Gone release comes with a printed inner sleeve featuring lyrics and in a gold with black swirl pressing limited to 5000 copies worldwide, exclusively for RSD Black Friday!

Released in 1974, Aqua is the first solo album by Tangerine Dream's frontman Edgar Froese. It is known as his most influential release as his entire advance was invested in the acquisition and development of the then-unknown sequencers and modular synthesisers. “Aqua is a work of creation that has opened many doors to the sound exploration and to the parameters in a fusion between abstract and harmony". This release has been out of print on vinyl until now. This deluxe package includes a 2005 bonus track and new album art that has never been released on vinyl. Blue smoke vinyl with an an OBI strip, gatefold album jacket, printed inner sleeve, and replicas of the original record labels.

Regarded as one of several standouts from the band’s landmark fall ‘91 tour, this stop in Hampton is certainly worthy of its lore. In addition to having all the hallmarks of a quintessential latter era Jerry Garcia Band performance, this night featured a very special guest: Virginia’s own Bruce Hornsby, joining on electric piano for the first and only time. The setlist is typically well-balanced, mixing road-tested staples, like the show opening “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” along with more recent additions to Garcia’s songbook like Van Morrison’s “Bright Side of the Road” and the show-closing “What A Wonderful World.” Playing with Hornsby always seemed to ignite a spark within Garcia and this proved to be no exception with their potent chemistry fueling lively versions of “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox,” “You Never Can Tell (C’est La Vie)” and “Midnight Moonlight.”
The collection is pressed to five 180gram LPs in a limited edition of 7,500 and housed in a deluxe clamshell box featuring new artwork by Graham Yarrington.

This RSD Black Friday release brings together four studio demo sessions from The Heartbreakers (Johnny Thunders, Walter Lure, Billy Rath & Jerry Nolan) from 1976 and 1977, compiled onto one album for the first time.
Two sessions were recorded in 1976 in New York, including four tracks in their early incarnation with Richard Hell, and later six tracks after Billy Rath had joined on bass. In London in 1977, they recorded one session just prior to signing with Track Records, and another after L.A.M.F. had been released, with The Clash’s Terry Chimes on drums replacing the newly departed Jerry Nolan.
Pressed on transparent magenta vinyl, this release comes with a 12” poster of the Roberta Bayley cover photo, an outtake from the L.A.M.F. cover session, and an inner bag with Walter Lure interviewed by Johnny Thunders’ biographer Nina Antonia in 2005. The album shows the development of the band building towards their classic 1977 ‘L.A.M.F.’ album (recently reissued with a newly found original master), and further points to the direction they would have gone had they not split up.

The sixth album from Hot Tuna (Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and Bob Steeler) would become one of the hardest rocking album ever in the power trio’s large catalog of blues/rock projects over the last five decades. Released in 1975, Yellow Fever would become a fan favorite with tracks like Jimmy Reed's "Baby What You Want Me To Do" as well as plenty of hard blues rockers from Jorma Kaukonen like "Bar Room Crystal Ball" "Song For The Fire Maiden" and "Free Rein." This RSD Black Friday yellow vinyl version, the first vinyl edition since 1975, was mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso from the original Grunt Records tapes.
