This compilation of classic PLATTERS cuts, drawn from EPs issued in the US, the UK and France between 1956 and 1962, comprises a prime selection of A-sides, B-sides and a couple of stray album tracks. It includes all their major hits, notably 'Only You', 'The Great Pretender', 'The Magic Touch', 'My Prayer', 'Twilight Time', 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes' and 'Harbour Lights', all million-sellers. During the mid-to-late 1950s The Platters were the most popular vocal group in the world. They appeared on dozens of top-ranking US?TV?shows, in six iconic R&R movies, and headlined tours in the US, the UK, mainland Europe, Australia, South America and The Philippines. Sadly, their popularity ground to a halt in 1960 when lead singer Tony Williams, the man with that unmistakable, mellifluous high tenor, left to pursue a solo career.
